Welcome – and what this space is about
This is a place for sense-making.
I’m writing for people who can feel that something is deeply wrong, but who refuse denial, numbness, or false reassurance as a response.
Climate change is not just a scientific problem or a policy failure. It is a cultural, emotional, and political reality that shapes how we live, decide, hope, and avoid.
This publication is where I make that reality faceable – without sugar-coating the grim facts, and also without letting it overwhelm us.
What I write about
I focus on the spaces where climate conversations usually break down:
• where facts overwhelm
• where media is silent
• where institutions delay
• where fear paralyses
• where solutions ignore how we actually live and feel
You’ll find writing about:
• climate, culture, nature, and power
• media narratives and what they leave out
• political courage and political cowardice
• community, connection, and agency
• how humour, beauty, and storytelling can lower defences
• why culture and connection always moves before policy
Sometimes this will be uncomfortable.
Sometimes it will be reflective and soothing.
I don’t aim to convince you. I aim to make our shared reality inspiring – and human. In service to life on Earth.
Who this is for
I write, talk and video-record for:
• people who care, but feel overwhelmed
• readers tired of media’s lack of climate coverage
• organisers, educators, and professionals navigating climate reality
• citizens who want honesty without despair
• anyone who senses that “business as usual” thinking no longer works
Why I’m doing this
I’ve spent decades working across climate journalism, community radio, political campaigning, education, music, video-making and storytelling.
What I’ve learned is simple – and hard at the same time:
Facts alone don’t change culture.
Power without honesty doesn’t last.
No amount of personal effort can compensate when it is the system that is broken.
A lot of climate action work creates public value – but the dominant economy rewards short-term attention, conflict, and sameness. That leaves much of the most important work underfunded and emotionally exhausting.
This publication is part of building a more sustainable platform for doing this work properly – with depth, continuity, and care.
Free and paid on Substack – how this works
Free subscribers
Free posts are open and shareable.
They’re where I:
• offer sense-making
• respond to current events and silences
• explore ideas that need to circulate widely
Paid subscribers
Paid subscribers make this work possible. If this work is useful to you, and you’re able to support it, thank you!
Paid subscribers support:
• long-form, deeper analysis
• behind-the-scenes political reality
• writing and filming that takes time, care, and courage
You’re not paying for “premium content”. You’re supporting sustained clarity in a noisy, distorted landscape.
A final note
I don’t believe change comes from superheroes.
I believe it comes from:
• connection
• shared understanding
• awareness of our reality and conditions
This publication is one small contribution to that work.
Reading, thinking, and reflecting is just the beginning.
